I once asked a solicitor I was chatting to on a tube train in London what he thought was the most valuable thing he possessed. He thought about the question and then replied that his family was. Even though it was a nice answer, I told him that his own eternal soul was actually the most valuable thing he possessed! He had been thinking about his family in temporal terms but during that brief conversation he realised that eternity lay ahead for both him and his family as I told him of Jesus, the Saviour of the world. Before he got off the train he said, " I shall never forget you and what you told me!" As he walked onto the platform I prayed that this man and his family would all be saved.
Jesus compared our eternal soul to the whole world! Even if we gained the whole world and lost our soul it would be a bad bargain! The highest price was paid to redeem us - the precious blood of Christ. Reader, have YOU been saved by Jesus yet?
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
