Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
A few years ago I undertook a preaching tour of the South Devon Riviera with some friends. Each morning they picked me up in their car and we travelled to our daily destination together. One evening, however, God spoke into my heart and told me to catch the train the following morning to our next destination - Teignmouth. I immediately phoned my friends and shared this with them and we agreed that they would meet me at Teignmouth railway station! Humanly speaking, this just did not make sense, as it would have been far easier and far more practical for us to travel together in the car! When God speaks to us, however, we must obey! I just knew in my heart that the Lord must have had a very special reason for sending me to Teignmouth on the train and I was soon to find out exactly what it was!
The following morning I boarded the train and sat in my seat next to a smartly dressed man in his late twenties or early thirties. After a few moments we started chatting and he told me that he was training to be a lawyer. He asked me what I did ..... and I told him that I was an evangelist! He then said, "That's amazing! I have been hoping that I would meet someone who could tell me how I could know God!"
What did I do next? I told this young man how God had spoken to me the night before, telling me that I should catch the train to Teignmouth! He was amazed, and excited to see this evidence of God's love for him and listened intently as I told him the way of salvation. During the course of our conversation I offered him a copy of The Missing Peace by Mike Hencher, which he gratefully received. As the train arrived in Teignmouth we shook hands and said goodbye and as I left the train and walked towards the station exit I prayed for his salvation and thanked God for bringing us together .... on the gospel train!
