Whilst taking my dog for a walk with a friend we met a lady who was also walking her dog. As we chatted, this lady started telling us that she had been through difficult times. She then said, "When I feel down, I like to find a tree and I hold onto that tree and lay all my burdens and sorrows at the foot of it." Looking her in the eye I said, "Did you know that there is a tree you can come to, the tree where Jesus died for your sins? The Bible says in 1 Peter chapter 2 verse 24: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed." Tears welled up in her eyes and she then said " That's amazing. I never knew that there was such a verse in the Bible." Overcome with emotion, she thanked us both for the chat and gladly received a copy of The Missing Peace before continuing on her way.
Several weeks later I met her again whilst walking my dog and she said. "Hello! I looked up that Bible verse as soon as I got home! Thanks so much for telling me about it." We chatted for about 20 minutes and I was able to tell her again of the Saviour, who carried her sorrows and bore her sins in his own body on the tree.
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Reader have you come to the foot of the cross yet?
